The Australian Blues Project - Web Hosting
As part of its commitment to promoting Australian blues across the
world, the Australian Blues Project is able to offer limited web
hosting services to blues musicians. This web hosting offer is
provided as a service to the blues community and while there are
limitations, there is no cost associated with its use.
The web hosting service is limited to one site per band or artist,
which we would prefer to be an "official" site, although we will
consider tribute sites or fan sites on a case by case basis
(especially for bands that no longer exist).
What We Can Provide
- Server space
- The Australian Blues Project site and all subsiduary sites are
hosted on a fast and well supported web server sponsored by
Australia On Line.
Individual sites on this server do not suffer disk space limits
and so long as everyone is reasonable in their demands, no such
limits should be necessary.
- Domain name
- Each site is given a domain name underneath the 'blues.org.au'
domain, e.g. 'artistname.blues.org.au'. It is preferable that
this name be derived from the band or artist name, but can
really be anything--it's just a web address, after all.
Suggested forms for the domain name are:
- artistname.blues.org.au
- artist-name.blues.org.au
Prefixing the domain name with "www." will also correctly address
the band's site.
- Email redirection
- Once a domain name has been chosen, an email alias of the same
name can be provided, i.e. assuming 'artistname.blues.org.au' as
the domain name, the email alias would be 'artistname@blues.org.au'.
This is simply an email alias that redirects mail to another
address.
What We DON'T Provide
- Email services
- We are not an ISP; we simply provide an email alias that will
be redirected to another mailbox. Artists who decide to make
use of the web hosting service must still have internet access
and an email account with an ISP to make use of the email
redirection facility.
- Web site creation
- We only host the web site; you must still find someone else to
actually build the site for you.
At this point, the only update method available for artist web sites
is via ftp.
